“Brasília International Airport - President Juscelino Kubitschek” is the international airport of Brasilia. With a terminal capable of handling more than 9 million passengers per year, it is one of Brazil's most modern airports.
It is operated by Infraero, and it is named after the former Brazilian President Juscelino Kubitschek. In 2006, the airport opened a second runway. In 2008, the airport handled 10,443,393 passengers and 141,477 aircraft movements, placing it as the 4th busiest airport in Brazil by passenger traffic, and 3rd busiest by aircraft movements. The airport was designed by Oscar Niemeyer. For him an airport is the gateway into a city. This entrance, visitors will see first when they arrived after a long journey to their destination. For this reason it was important for Niemeyer that the airport of Brasilia reflects the modern architecture of the city.
