“Choosing not to create the singular indexical, and direct reality-mirroring image beloved of the Bechers and their followers, Kellner chose to make an image that could not for a moment be equated with the real thing, by moving his camera in a succession of shots that he collectively combined to constitute both a reference and an interpretation.” Nordström, Alison, Fotografia -Poland (no. 24-25), 2008, page 128

The Mechanical Corps. In the footsteps of Jules Verne
Curated by Peter Lang (†) and Christoph Tannert

At the beginning of the 21st century, with its extreme acceleration and expansion of information density and global communication, the visual arts, fashion and design, literature, film and comics are showing an aesthetic return to the world of the late 19th century, while at the same time the technical world is miniaturizing. Nanosciences and autonomous machines are increasingly seen as the dominant developments of the future. A paradox of civilizational development is emerging, which the curators Peter Lang (†) and Christoph Tannert question in the project The Mechanical Corps with the help of art and cultural-historical objects. What is the reason for the fascination with the aesthetics of old machines, for the simplicity symbolized by them and, from today's perspective, the slowness? What does such a relationship to the world express today, which seeks connections to the dreamlike and the unbelievable? An exhibition with works by: Yoshi Akai, ATAK, Roland Boden, Jean-Pierre Bouvet, James Capper, Wendy Esmeralda Castillo, Jos de Vink, Stefan Fahrnländer, Eric Freitas, Roland Fuhrmann, Andreas Gerth, Gregor Hildebrandt, Karl Hans Janke, Thomas Kellner, Yunchul Kim, Alicja Kwade, Peter Langer, Via Lewandowsky, Florian Mertens, Gustav Mesmer, Moebius, Richard "Doc" Nagy, Nik Nowak, Donna Ong, Panamarenko, Michael Sailstorfer, Alexander Schlesier, Henrik Schrat, François Schuiten, Amanda Scrivener, Steam Noir, Haruo Suekichi, Philip Topolovac, Gerard van Lankveld, Brecht Vandenbroucke, Viron Erol Vert, Takashi Watabe, Bert Wrede, Ralf Ziervogel.
