Urban Noir
Urban Noir - inspired by the great photographer Brassai, Helen K. Garber has been specializing in night urban landscapes for the past 10 years. New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome and Venice are among the cities that she has captured while most of the city is asleep. A Night View of Los Angeles, a 40 foot long, 360 degree panorama of the entire city of Los Angeles was commissioned for the 10th International Biennale of Architecture, Venice Italy for 2006. A second print was displayed at the entrance of the 2007 International Art Fair, Photo L.A.
Helen K. Garber, an urbanist, feels a comradarie with graffiti artists as they all roam the city at night using the urban landscape to create their art. She has recently invited the most renowned graffiti artists of Los Angeles to add their tags to her 40 foot long print that was displayed at Photo LA. They will share in her privileged opportunity to document the entire city from the highest and most secured point - the helipad of the US Bank Tower. Adding their well known signatures to the piece will allow them to ceremoniously tag the entire city at once.
