The Siegerland Artists' Association on the road to China
With a suitcase full of artworks, a travel group from Siegen is heading off to China. Not as tourists, but as artists, as they are due to exhibit art from the Siegerland region at renowned venues in Beijing and Deyang. About a year ago, the German-Chinese Friendship Society approached the artists from Siegen asking whether they would like to exhibit in the twin town of the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein, Deyang in the People's Republic of China. Such enquiries are quite common at the Association. It is developing into the maint point of contact with regard to art and artists from Siegen-Wittgenstein. Other exhibitions at sister cities of Siegen have already taken place in the past. The first planning meeting in the Gomberg House bore to the question of how to organise and finance the ambitious undertaking. In particular, the District Administration under Paul Breuer and Wolfgang Suttner were very open to the idea of stimulating the relationship with the distant twin city and not only promoted the production of a representative programme, but also begain making their own travel plans. On the 4th of October, a delegation from the District under Paul Breuer, accompanied by the Siegen media, will set out to visit the exhibition of the Siegner artists in Beijing and inaugurate the one in Deyang.
