British Museum is home to a vast collection of art and antiquities in London, Great Britain. It was established in 1753 with the donation of 71,000 objects from the collection of Sir Hans Sloane and was sat at the site of the Montagu House in Bloomsbury. Because of to less space the Smirke building was built between 1823 and 1853, designed by Sir Robert Smirke in Greek revival style. It was first used as the library of King George IV and became also like other additions part of the British museum. The last extension, the Great Court was opened in 2000 by the Queen Elizabeth II. The Great Court was designed by Norman Foster and Partners. The museum houses more than 6 million artefacts of nearly every sector of English discovery.
