London, Big Ben

The Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster is referred to as the 'Big Ben', but in fact the name Big Ben refers to the clock's hour bell. The clock is the largest in Great-Britain. The tower was constructed between 1843 and 1858 by Sir Charles Barry (1795-1860) and August Pugin (1812-1852) as the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster (today: House of Parliament).The tower is 96 metres high and the four clock faces are 55 metres above ground level. The tower is designed in Gothic Revival style and it’s consisting of brickwork with stone cladding. The clock is famous for its reliability and it is one of the most popular landmarks in the United Kingdom.
