Useful Information about Jean Ravy
Jean Ravy was born in 1300. He was a French sculptor and architect and was involved in the second phase of the construction of Notre Dame de Paris. That phase began in 1250 and lasted until the XIVth century. Between 1318 and 1344, Jean Ravy worked there as a master builder. He focused on a relief, the clôture du choers. It shows scenes from the life of Jesus. He also worked on the flying buttresses of the choir. He replaced the latter with 14 new buttress arches with a reach of 15 metres. In the meantime, he worked on the south part of the relief, representing Joseph's life and the apparitions. Jean Ravy depicted himself kneeling at the edge of the clôture. He was unable to finish the work on the relief before his death. His nephew Jean le Boutellier finished it in 1351. Jean Ravy died in Paris in 1350.
