Ieoh Ming Pei (I. M. Pei, born 1917)

Ieoh Ming Pei, born 1917 in Canton, China. He left China when he was seventeen to study architecture at MIT (Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1940) and Harvard, where he studied under Walter Gropius and finished his studies in 1946.
Pei worked as an instructor and then as an assistant professor at Harvard before he joined Webb & Knapp Inc. in New York in 1948. Pei worked as the head of the architectural division of Webb and Knapp, Inc. until 1960. In 1955 he formed the partnership of I. M. Pei & Associates, which became I. M. Pei & Partners in 1966, and Pei Cobb Freed & Partners in 1989.
Ieoh Ming Pei designed  the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, the East Building of the National Gallery of Art in Washington and the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston.  His more recent works include the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, the Grand Louvre in Paris, the Miho Museum in Shiga, Japan, the Schauhaus at the German Historical Museum in Berlin, and the Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean in Luxembourg. Among Mr. Pei's skyscraper designs are the 72-story Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong and the Four Seasons Hotel in midtown Manhattan. He has completed two projects in his native China: the Fragrant Hill Hotel in Beijing and the Suzhou Museum in Suzhou. Through all his career Mr. Pai has been awarded numerous prices and honorships all over the world.
