Press release on the ASK joint exhibition

LustLeib - LeibLeid
Bodies in the context of art

The numerous events celebrating the 90th anniversary of Siegen's oldest association of artists, the Siegerland Artists' Working Group, have so far attracted widespread attention in the media and among the art-loving public. Three exhibitions by the group, several shows by individual members, a much-noticed catalog project, as well as another limited edition calendar with original prints and an art portfolio are evidence of the group's productivity. To mark the end of the anniversary year, the ASK is now showing LustLeib - LeibLeid Körper im Kontext der Kunst, a group exhibition on the subject of corporealities at the Siegen Haus Seel gallery.

14 of the currently 29-member strong community are creating the themed exhibition on the always topical body discourse - as exhibitions in Austria and Germany show - with some brand-new and previously unexhibited works. The works shown by the ASK in a wide variety of media and techniques (painting, photography, drawing, graphics, assemblage and sculpture) are close to the concept of discourse or freely associative, pose questions about the integrity or intactness of the human body in and through society, discuss the social treatment of carnality and its concealment or even levelling, focus on taboo zones of the social construction of the body and criticize the commercial reification of the corporeal human being. The body as a demarcation from the outside, the body in its fragmentation and as a model, as a doll for example, are objects of artistic interest. Death and dying as the end point of living corporeality shine through here and there, and the body as a principle of order, as an organism, is another broad, always inspiring field.

Works by the following ASK members will be on display:
Mirjam Elburn, Andrea Freiberg, Renate Hahn, Günter Hähner, Margret Judt, Thomas Kellner, Dagobert Koblenzer, Kai-Uwe Körner, Petra Oberhäuser, Helmut Riekel, Ingo Schultze-Schnabl, Olaf neopan Schwanke, Helga Seekamp and Susanne Skalski

The exhibition in Haus Seel, Kornmarkt 20, 57072 Siegen, can be seen from November 22 to December 16: Tuesday to Saturday from 2 - 6 pm, Sundays and public holidays from 11 am - 1 pm and 2 - 6 pm.

We would like to cordially invite you to the vernissage on Thursday, November 22, at 7 pm. You will be welcomed by Fritz Hiller, head of KulturSiegen for the city of Siegen, as well as Kai-Uwe Körner, artistic director of ASK. The opening speech will be given by the Siegen painter-poet Olaf neopan Schwanke.

Representatives of the cultural press are also cordially invited to get an impression of the exhibition in advance. The ASK invites them to do so on Tuesday, November 20 at 5 p.m. in the rooms of Galerie Haus Seel.
