“Look of the City” International Architecture Photography Exhibition
With support from International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) and Berufsverband freie Fotografen & Filmgestalter e.V. (BFF), we are honored to include in this exhibition works of president from the two organizations. This exhibition assembles 100 outstanding architecture photography works of eight artists from seven countries, namely, United States, Italy, Germany, Slovakia, Spain, Jordan and China.
Each artist presents works with unique style and distinctive features. Through a series of layered, repetitive architectural patterns, the series “Close” by Michal Zahornacky alludes to the suffocating atmosphere of the pandemic. The essence of “Dancing Wall” by Germany photographer Thomas Kellner lies within the fact that his large-scale color photographs are contact sheets composed of consecutively assembled filmstrips of a single shooting session. All works in the series are artistically arranged photomontages. His language of fragmentation, reminiscent of cubistic and futuristic paintings, is permeated by a rhythmic musicality, which Kellner describes as a “vibration” or a “dancing glance”. His art explores the history of the photography genre in a media-reflective way. Another Germany photographer Florian W Mueller applies multiple exposures in camera setting to capture beauty of architecture details, presenting the vibe of calmness and dignity through his lens. Long fascinated by the play of color, shape and pattern, and its effect on the viewer, this body of work, “Mandalas”, by American photographer Don Penny, is much more than just a study of interesting patterns and colors, more so it is intended to be a portal into the soul of the viewer. Through his process, hi-definition digital captures of manmade urban dwellings and structures, views of everyday world are distilled into a fractel slice that Don Penny believes defines their essence. Pedro Luis Ajuriaguerra Saiz from Spain is generally attracted to avant-garde and futuristic buildings. He tries to give them their own identity with his photography. Works created by Riccardo Busi from Italy is as mysterious as they were captured from outer space, abstract and paintingly. Jordanian photographer Ibrahim Nabeel creates unique vision of how he sees the city by multi-layering images of the city, brings out the rhythmic beat of life in the city. The Chinese photographer Zhang Chenlu is styled by the use of oversaturated color to approach the subject, integrating the art of the east and the west through photography, resulting in the collision of contemporary photography and architecture art.
