Charity Auction in the Ahr Valley

Charity Auction Art & Culture in the Ahr Valley

Pressrelease

Unimaginable water masses and resulting events destroyed the region of the Ahr valley in the Eifel in the night from Wednesday 14 July to Thursday 15 July 2021. Along with other regions in NRW, the Rhineland and Hesse, this region of the Ahr valley was particularly badly affected. The horrific consequences are 133 dead, numerous injured and traumatised people, as well as people who are still missing today. The region suffered immense damage amounting to billions of euros, as some of the infrastructure was completely destroyed and many families, business people, restaurateurs, cultural institutions, etc. lost their living and working space. The Ludwig Museum Koblenz, with its director Prof. Dr. Beate Reifenscheid, and the Diede Gallery, Beulich, have therefore initiated the aid project “Action Art & Culture in the Ahr Valley” and, together with many committed artists*, have collected a large number of fantastic works donated by them. These will now be put under the hammer in a charity auction. Now it’s up to all of you to get actively involved in the cultural scene in the Ahr Valley. Please help us to finally be able to transfer a considerable amount to those who urgently need support! Set a sign of solidarity. 100% of the donation proceeds will go to the Volksbank RheinAhrEifel eG’s civic foundation. The civic foundation of Volksbank RheinAhrEifel eG strives with its activities to sustainably promote cultural and social life in its business area. In this way, it wants to contribute to strengthening the home region and making it attractive and fit for the future. In addition to providing financial support for projects that are brought to its attention, it repeatedly initiates projects of its own and thus provides forward-looking and trend-setting impulses. Against the backdrop of the flood disaster, the Foundation has dedicated its commitment very specifically to those affected and to helpers in the disaster areas. The foundation’s board of trustees consults closely with a group of experts from the field of art and culture on the distribution of donations to cultural institutions and cultural workers from the Ahr Valley. On 22 September from 6 p.m. you can follow the action directly. After registering on site, you will receive a bidder’s number to bid as a hall bidder. Preview of the works: from Saturday 18 September at the Ludwig Museum Koblenz.
