The Thomas Kellner Studio is seeking a part-time assistant (approx. 5 hours/week) to support administrative, organizational, and conceptual tasks. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong interest in contemporary art, photography, and international exhibition practices.

Thomas Kellner is an internationally active artist based in Siegen, Germany. In addition to his artistic practice, he has served as a visiting professor at several universities and regularly contributes to photography publications. He also curates exhibitions, collaborates within international artist networks, and maintains close relationships with curators, journalists, and galleries worldwide.

This role offers valuable insight into the professional operations of an artist’s studio and the structures of the global art market.

 

Key Responsibilities in the Artist Studio

The assistant will primarily support the preparation and coordination of exhibitions, applications, and artistic projects.

Organization and Application Management

  • (management) and preparation of application materials for exhibitions, art prizes, and funding programs
  • Coordination and submission of funding applications (e.g., VG Bild-Kunst, Stiftung Kunstfonds, Kulturstiftung NRW, Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen)

Communication and Networking

  • Preparation and distribution of mailings to museums, galleries, and art institutions
  • Support in maintaining international communication with partners and collaborators

Writing and Concept Development

  • Writing and editing exhibition texts and art-related content
  • Drafting and developing concepts for new artistic series
  • Assisting in the curatorial development of exhibitions

Research and Project Support

  • Research on open calls, exhibitions, and publications
  • Assistance with catalog production and exhibition planning

 

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a structured, reliable, and self-motivated individual with a strong interest in artistic processes and the organization of art projects.

Professional Skills

  • Excellent command of German and English
  • Proficiency in standard office software
  • Basic knowledge of image editing (e.g., Adobe Photoshop)
