The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge, which tides over the seamless Transition between the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The Bridge connects the city of San Francisco on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County. The Bridge had the world's tallest suspension towers at the time of construction and until 1964 the center span was the longest among suspension bridges. The Golden Gate Bridge was opened at 12.May 1937 after 4 years construction period under the directions of the architect Joseph B. Strauss (1870-1938) for vehicles (US Highway 101 and State Route 1), pedestrians and bicycles. In 2007, it was ranked fifth on the List of America's Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects.
