Harbour Bridge, Sydney

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel through arch bridge across Sydney Harbour. The dramatic view of the bridge, the harbour, and the nearby Sydney Opera House is an iconic image of Sydney and Australia. The bridge is nicknamed "The Coathanger" because of its arch-based design or is simply called "the Bridge" by Sydney residents.
From 1924-1932 the bridge was built and designed by British firm Dorman Long and Co Ltd under the direction of civil engineer John Bradfield. The bridge was opened on 19 March 1932. The Sydney Harbour Bridge, which was added to the Australian National Heritage List on 19 March 2007 and to the New South Wales State Heritage on 25 June 1999, is one of the heaviest and widest arched bridges in the world.
