Zeng Han: Costume Role-Plays and The Individual

Not only in Europe do people meet for role-plays. In China, you have besides the traditional role-plays in old theatre costumes the modern variation of Manga costumes or those of other idols of a comic culture. Zeng Han has photographed both. However, the more modern role actors placed on the roof of a high-rise symbolize the younger generation in the faceless large cities and metropolitan areas of China searching for a sense of being. The search for a distinct, visible and recognizable individual in a mass society is both the expression of an escape from everyday life and the mirror of a society steered by the media as well.
