Thomas Kellner challenges monuments' presumed physical and cultural longevity and makes visible the underlying fragility of our historical landmarks. In 1997, he started his series on European monuments that architecturally deconstructs landmarks of culture—skewing and twistine these familiar sites by photographing them frame by frame to create a Cubist-like portrait. The results are views of fractured and fragmented structures that are both unsettled and unsettling. Kellner is represented by the Schneider Gallery in Chicago and Stephen Cohen Gallery, San Francisco.
